Equality in our Education System? No thanks!

February 22, 2012

Excuse me for any typos or ridiculous turns of phrase. I’m freaking tired man! However, something got me so worked up, I HAD to blog!

So, I recently read this article, posted by a friend on facebook. Read it.

What a load of bullshit, right? I mean, where are we going with this, Mr. Gove? I quote: “The education provisions of the Equality Act 2010 which prohibit discrimination against individuals based on their protected characteristics (including their sexual orientation) do not extend to the content of the curriculum. Any materials used in sex and relationship education lessons, therefore, will not be subject to the discrimination provisions of the act.”

Are we slipping back into the days of Section 28?

Parents: You are potentially letting your children be indoctrinated by a bunch of religious nuts! Even if you are a homo-hating prick, who wants their kids to beat gays to death with a big stick, please read this (thanks to another facebook user for link) Whether you’re H, L, G, B or T, any type of bullying is SHIT and can lead to a horrible and miserable life and potentially death. If those kids had been raised to understand that same-sex relationships are just as normal as relationships between members of the opposite sex, Dominic and his father would potentially still be here. And gay-bashers- that could have been your son or daughter – how about that?

God, I hate how you just sit on the fence when you are tired :-). Hope you slept well once you got that out of your system. And of course, it goes without saying that you are right.

That’s awful! Thanks for spreading the links, I will include them in my weekly round-up this week as they should definitely be passed on to as many people as possible. Glee’s latest episode actually has about homophobic bullying in schools and also brings up the point how, with Facebook, Twitter, Mobile’s etc, bullying has so many possible sources now and it is making it seemingly impossible for kids to get away from it whereas before all that existed, at least when kids were at home, they had a chance to have some hours off from it. Now they get home and find it on their Facebook pages too. How we stop this happening as parents I don’t know but it’s scary.
